Hauppauge thinks outside the box with their WinTV-HVR-950. This external TV tuner connects to your computer with a USB 2.0 connection so you don't have to open your case to get TV on your Mac or PC. The hybrid tuner can handle NTSC analog signals along with ATSC digital signals up to 1080i.
Since the tuner has been condensed to the size of a USB thumb drive it's easy to take with you on the road. A portable antenna and credit-card sized remote are included. Just slip it into your carry case and enjoy the show from wherever you are.
Acer does not seem to have any scanner drivers available, as far as I can see. I dont mind updating operating systems, but it is a pain if I have to replace all my hardware every time! Yes, it is an old scanner, but it worked fine with WinXP and Win 7, now I need it to work with Win 8. Brother printer drivers for mac. Also, they won't let me chat with them unless my equipment is still within warrantee. Where can I find a driver that will work with it?

Great for Mac, not so great for Windows10/9/2009 11:38:57 AM
Pros: Works well with OSX 10.5.8 and the EyeTV Lite software package. Tunes analog signal quickly and managed to find quite a few QAM channels also. A/V composite input works flawlessly.
Cons: Under Windows 7 (64 bit) it works reasonably well with WinTV v7 but tunes VERY slowly and fails to recognize the A/V inputs whatsoever. I was also forced to turn off the pause buffer because the playback would start to get pretty choppy after 20 or so minutes, causing me to have to close and restart the program frequently. Runs a bit more smoothly with Windows Media Center, but still no support for the A/V inputs.
Overall Review: I value the flexibility of being able to use this with either OS, but I’d be much happier if the A/V inputs worked under Windows also.

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SUPPORT - MAC USERS STAY AWAY6/1/2009 4:44:19 PM
Pros: crystal clear OTA HDTV, easy set up, bunded eyeTV lite software is easy to use
Cons: composite video did not work with my Macbook (core 2 duo 13' aluminum)
Overall Review: I went through 2 of these things and had the same problem. When composite video was connected, I couldn't get the video, just audio. I didn't have this problem using Hauppauge's half-baked WinTV software on my Windows computer, but in eyetv lite on my Mac, it wouldn't work. Elgato told me it was Hauppauge's problem and Hauppauge told me it was Elgato's problem. I wanted to upload old home movies via composite so this is being returned.
Ownership: less than 1 day
Pros: May work great don't know did even use the darn thing.
Cons: I bought this because it said it receives digital signal, no where online did i see that it say over the air only.
Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
Not as good as the rest of the reviews claim.5/7/2009 8:59:37 AM
Cons: PC software is very weak. I have not tried the Mac version yet. Since I will be using it equally in both that is a big con for me. PC tuning is very slow. Locked up on me a few times. And very glitchy while trying to multitask. Included antenna is worthless.
Overall Review: I bought this as an option for bad weather and occasional viewing while working. I planned to use it on both of my PC's and on a Mac Book Pro. But after the PC experience I am going to send it back and try something else. I have heard good things about the included Mac software but since I am not going to try it, this will be a PC review. My experience was on an Intel quad core runing dual nVidia 9800gt cards, and 4 gigs of RAM, Vista Ultimate 64bit. Auto tuning was slow and I had to hook up a powered digital antenna in order to find any stations. The included antenna found nothing. Even with the powered antenna there were 5 channels that would not tune in. I know this b/c that antenna picks them up w/o boost on one of my other tv's. The channels that did tune looked fantastic but became very glitchy when I would do anything else on the system. Even brousing the internet caused problems. Still Searching..

Pros: Works very well for recording over the air stuff and from an external source (DVD, VHS, etc.). I'd personally recommend using the EyeTV software for Mac over the PC software (it comes with both). The PC one worked horribly for me. Could've been a driver issue on my PC side (Dual Bootin'!). I'm on the Mac side more anyway, so it worked out.
Cons: ..as I said, I had trouble with the included PC software. Again, it may have been a driver issue or something with my computer. Depending on your reception, you'll probably need more than the supplied antenna.
Hp Printer Drivers For Mac
Overall Review: If you have a Mac, I would highly recommend this product if you like to watch and save stuff to your computer. I've been recording LOST for over a year now!
Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: I love this little USB tuner is absolutely fantastic it has exceeded my expectations and I am very happy. I plug this in my desktop PC and a Macbook Pro and it performs great. I get all the HD channels with just the tiny antenna that it comes with, both at home about 25 miles off of Los Angeles, and also when I go to San Diego so I am delighted with the versatility. I also like that its white and complements my Macbook Pro nicely when I'm traveling. I have not tried cable or Clear QAM, so I cannot comment on this, but it works great with Dish Network I have at home. Image quality is great, and it works with Windows Media Center which is nice, although not if you want to watch over-the-air HD channels. In this case, you have to use Hauppauge's application which is decent, not necessarily eye candy, but very useful and easy to use and picture quality is excellent. The eyetv software is a lite version, and at least for me, has every feature I care for and HD is nice.
Cons: One con, which is not a big deal for me personally but for some it might be, and it might not apply to everyones computer, is that to use it with Windows Media Center I had to call Hauppauge to help because the TV set-up would not recognize the tuner. I turned out that my ATI HD 4850 driver had messed some settings up, as if preparing for an ATI Wonder, and it was conflicting with my tuner installation. So the people at Hauppauge guided me over the phone and told me what to click on etc until it changed this setting. It is more ATI's fault the the tuner really but thought I'd mention it.
Overall Review: First time I write a review on any website for anything but I am really happy I got this. One last thing I didn't mention is that it comes with a USB slot with an adapter so you can plug in your red/white/yellow with external devices. I took it to my gfs house and played Game Cube (yes, antiquated) on my Macbook Pro and was stoked that I could ever do this. Overall, I would highly recommend it to anyone who owns both pc or Mac. It you only have a pc, you are probably better off getting the PC only version and save some money. Seems to be the same product minus the tv lite software. Anyways, cheers!
Pros: Size, ease of set-up, software, included antenna, overall design and usability.
Cons: None that I have found
Konica Minolta Drivers For Mac
Overall Review: You cannot beat this product for the money. I do not have a TV, but did not want to miss the Olympics. I unboxed it, set-up the software, hooked up the antenna, and waa-laa, it worked like a charm and I was watching the opening ceremony within minutes. Little antenna picked up both analogue and Hi-Def, but I did end up buying a little antenna and a good RG-6 cable to stabilize the signal.
Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
Pros: Real easy hardware setup, install the software and plug the device into the USB port and worked the very first time without any issues. Small and very portable, can be used in different machines by just plugging it into another computer USB port.
Cons: I use this device on a Mac so the included software (EyeTV Lite) is not the full blown version, upgrade will cost me another $40 (no free upgrade provided). Image quality is slightly worse compared to my previous ATI 600 tuner when viewed at the same resolution or full screen mode. Requires an external power adapter to run which means more cable mess under the desk.
Overall Review: With regards to the image quality the ATI tuner that I have was a internal PCI-e card, given that this USB device is so small all the IC components are probably squeezed in the small PCB that could account for the slightly worse image quality. If they could design this tuner to draw power from the USB port it would make this an even better device, no more cables to deal with.
